📌 Royal visit boosts UK-US diplomacy, but long-term impact remains uncertain
King Charles and Queen Camilla received a warm reception in Washington, raising hopes in London for stronger UK-US relations. President Donald Trump praised Britain as one of America’s closest allies, while the King called for continued cooperation on defence, Ukraine, and NATO. Questions emerged, however, after Trump suggested that the King supported his Iran policy, prompting Buckingham Palace to clarify that the monarch follows the UK government’s official position. While the visit was widely regarded as a diplomatic success in symbolic and political terms, its long-term practical impact on bilateral relations remains unclear.

📌 Hormuz shipping traffic collapses as the Iran war disrupts energy and supply chains
Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has fallen sharply as the Iran war continues to disrupt global energy flows and supply chains. Before the conflict, around 3,000 vessels crossed the strait each month, carrying roughly one-fifth of global oil trade. In March, only 154 vessels crossed, leaving traffic at about 5% of pre-war levels. Many ships are avoiding the area altogether, while others are using routes designated by Iran. The disruption has already affected oil, gas, and fertilizer shipments, especially to Asian markets, underscoring the scale of strain on one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints.

📌 UAE exit weakens OPEC’s market influence
The UAE’s decision to leave OPEC is expected to weaken the cartel’s ability to influence oil markets, as the country holds one of the group’s largest spare production capacities after Saudi Arabia. Analysts say the move could reduce OPEC’s ability to manage supply shocks and weaken Saudi Arabia’s control within the organization. Although the short-term impact may be limited by the ongoing Strait of Hormuz crisis, the UAE may later expand output more freely, potentially putting downward pressure on crude prices and increasing market volatility.
