📌 Tunisia – Protests Escalate Against Saied’s Crackdown
Tunisians protested in central Tunis for a third straight week against President Kais Saied’s widening crackdown on opposition figures and civil society, demanding the release of political detainees. The protests intensified after an appeals court issued prison sentences of up to 45 years to dozens of opposition leaders, businesspeople, and lawyers accused of plotting to overthrow him. The UGTT union has also called a nationwide strike on January 21.
