📌 China’s Economy Shows Weakest Growth in Over a Year
China’s October data signaled renewed slowdown, with factory output rising just 4.9% and retail sales 2.9% – the weakest pace in over a year. The figures underscore mounting pressure on Beijing as Trump’s tariff war hits exports while domestic demand remains subdued. Economists warn China can no longer rely on industrial expansion and infrastructure spending to offset slower growth and stress the need for deeper reforms and targeted stimulus to support consumption.

📌 U.S.–South Korea Deal Links Tariff Cuts to Strategic Investments
The U.S. and South Korea unveiled a new trade agreement that includes a $150 billion Korean investment in U.S. shipbuilding and $200 billion for additional industrial sectors. The deal stems from an October meeting between Presidents Lee Jae Myung and Donald Trump, where Washington agreed to reduce tariffs on Korean products from 25% to 15%. A 27-point memorandum of understanding outlines strategic investments, with funds to be transferred within 45 days of project approvals, and includes cooperation on shipbuilding, AI, and the nuclear sector, including approval for South Korea to build nuclear-powered submarines.

📌 Indigenous Protesters Block COP30 Entrance in Brazil
Around 100 Indigenous protesters peacefully blocked the main entrance to the COP30 climate conference in Brazil for about 90 minutes, forming a human chain to prevent entry. Brazilian military personnel stopped them from entering the venue, with no clashes reported. Led by the Munduruku group, demonstrators demanded a meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and condemned policies they say sacrifice Indigenous communities for agribusiness. Chanting “Our forest is not for sale,” they stressed their role in protecting the Amazon. The COP30 president met with the group and even held a protester’s baby during discussions.
