📌 Selling children to survive: Afghan fathers forced to make impossible choices
Afghanistan’s hunger crisis is worsening as unemployment, drought, and major aid cuts leave millions unable to meet their basic needs. In Ghor province, some fathers say they are considering, or have already arranged, the sale of their daughters in order to afford food or medical care. Hospitals are struggling under the weight of malnourished children, medicine shortages, and rising infant deaths, while many families say they have received no meaningful support from either the government or aid organizations.

📌 Xi’s double act: Putin is set to arrive in China days after Trump’s departure
Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit China just days after Donald Trump’s summit with Xi Jinping, underscoring Beijing’s effort to position itself at the center of global diplomacy. The visit is expected to focus on China-Russia coordination across trade, energy, security, Ukraine, and Iran, as well as their shared support for a more multipolar world order. It also reflects Russia’s growing dependence on China under Western sanctions and the Ukraine war, while China may use the relationship to deepen energy ties with Moscow amid continuing instability in the Middle East.

📌 Iran says its peace proposal includes reparations for war damage and US troop withdrawal
Iran said its latest peace proposal to the United States includes ending hostilities across the region, withdrawing US forces from nearby areas, lifting sanctions, releasing frozen funds, ending the US naval blockade, and securing reparations for war damage. The proposal comes as a fragile ceasefire continues to hold after US-Israeli strikes. Trump said he paused planned attacks after receiving the proposal and suggested there is a strong chance of reaching a deal that would limit Iran’s nuclear program, although Tehran’s terms appear close to an earlier offer rejected by Washington.
