📌 Thailand & Southeast Asia – “Once in 300 Years” Rainfall Causes Massive Flooding
Record floods in southern Thailand have killed at least 18 people and affected more than two million residents. Ten provinces were inundated, with Hat Yai recording 335 mm of rain in a single day—the heaviest in 300 years. Homes and vehicles were submerged, while thousands were trapped on rooftops awaiting rescue. The Thai military deployed ships, helicopters, high-clearance vehicles, and jet skis, and prepared an aircraft carrier as a potential floating hospital. Vietnam and Malaysia were also hit hard, with rising casualties and displacement.
📌 Ukraine – “Common Understanding” Reached on US Peace Plan
Ukraine announced that it reached a “common understanding” with the US regarding the refined 28-point peace proposal developed in Geneva. President Trump instructed his envoy Steve Witkoff to meet President Putin in Moscow, while US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll will hold talks with Ukrainian officials. President Zelensky said he is ready to meet Trump to resolve remaining “sensitive points.” The Kremlin, which has not yet received the revised plan, warned it may reject amendments, and European leaders remain skeptical about a near-term ceasefire.
📌 Italy – Parliament Unanimously Votes to Classify Femicide as a Crime
Italy’s parliament approved a new law making femicide—the gender-motivated killing of a woman—a distinct crime punishable by life imprisonment. The vote took place on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and followed national outrage over the 2023 murder of Giulia Cecchettin. The law mandates that every gender-motivated killing be formally recorded as femicide to expose the deeper roots of such crimes, including power imbalance and systemic patriarchal violence.
